Of the original sites listed as the Seven Wonders of the World, only one is on today’s updated list and that wonder is the Great Pyramids of Giza. The original list has also been renamed the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Let look at the sites listed on the best “new” wonders list.
First to make the list is one of the largest waterfalls in the world, Victoria Falls. This awesome site is located in two African cities, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Victoria Falls begins in the Zambezi River and is twice the height of Niagara Falls and twice the width of Horseshoe Falls. A visit here will let you clearly understand why the local natives have named this wonder “The Smoke That Thunders”.
The second wonder is the Grand Canyon, located in Arizona. Through millions and millions of years, the Colorado River carved a canyon through the rock of the desert, resulting in the remarkable formation we see today. Since it’s located in the US, you will not need an American passport.
The third wonder on the list is the Great Barrier Reef located off the coast of Australia in the Coral Sea. As the largest reef system on the planet, stretching over 1,600 miles and comprised of over 2,900 individual reefs, it can actually be seen from space.
The fourth New Wonder of the World is the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. Considered the largest Art Deco statue in the world, it stands at a staggering 130 feet tall and nearly 100 feet wide with his arms outstretched. This statue stands looking down over Rio from the peak of the 2,300 foot tall Mount Corcovado.
Mount Everest is a tower number five and is known to be the highest location on the face of the earth. Reaching 29,002 feet, a family vacation to this location would consist of a breathing view from the summit but to the experienced mountain climber, it presents a challenge of a lifetime.
The sixth wonder is not really a place but a visual experience. Viewed from the northern most points on the globe, the Aurora or Northern Lights attract many to the northern regions of Canada for the spectacular heavenward show of the dancing lights.
Finally, new wonder number seven is Paricitun, a Mexican volcano found in the middle of Michoacan, Mexico. Many flock to this Mexican lava-covered community to get a photo op with this new wonder.
